Drive-by shooting shakes up Victoria

An apparent drive-by shooting in downtown Victoria sent a man to hospital with a single bullet wound in his leg Monday.

The noon-hour shooting happened at the corner of Vancouver and Fort Streets.

Police in Saanich stopped a gold van that matched one described fleeing the scene and were holding three people for questioning at press time, but Sgt. Grant Hamilton said it was too early to say if they were involved or what could have sparked the gunfire.

The victim was taken to hospital with injuries were described as not life-threatening.

Sgt. Glenn Vermette told reporters at the scene that police do not believe this is a random shooting and that it was a targeted incident.

Police had Fort Street closed to traffic between Quadra and Vancouver streets for several hours while they investigated.
