Victoria MLA drafts bill to ban pesticides

More than 20 local governments in B.C. have banned the sale of cosmetic pesticides and MLA Rob Fleming would like the province to follow suit.
The representative for Victoria-Swan Lake introduced the private members’ bill Wednesday.
Bylaws at the local level are ineffective, Fleming argued, because they lack any authority over retail sales. The government should take action as there is sufficient scientific evidence linking harmful environmental and health effects from the chemicals contained in common pesticides, he continued.
