Moss Rock subdivision worries neighbours
Neighbours of Moss Rock park are concerned a new subdivision will destroy their rocky landscape.
"The people who live here have never been informed of what is being imposed on our little community and the ecosystem that supports us," said Marianne Sämann of 353 Windermere Pl.
Blasting in the rock travels "through our foundation and sounds like an earthquake," she said. She fears the work could damage nearby houses.
Abstract Developments is building seven single-family homes where two once stood, adjacent to the park.
Because the development doesn't violate the zoning of the area, the application does not need to be approved by ity council and neighbours need not be contacted, said Jeff Mitton, supervisor of land development with the City of Victoria.
While Abstract's seven building envelopes have already been approved by city staff, the developer will still have to apply for building permits before construction begins.
The developer has volunteered to hold an information session through the community association.
