The Sisters in the Spirit campaign is dedicated to finding solutions to the high incidents of violence against aboriginal women.

The effort began by the Native Women's Association of Canada along with the Anglican and United churches in 2004. It was sparked by a concern over the lack of effort to resolve the disappearances of roughly 500 women.

A candlelight vigil to raise awareness for the 500 aboriginal women who have disappeared in Canada will take place Nov. 2 at 5:15 p.m. on the steps of Christ church Cathedral at Quadra Street and Rockland Avenue.

The goals of the campaign include establishing a hotline and registry to report and track missing women, and holding workshops to teach the underlying causes of violence against aboriginal women.

For more information, please contact Rev. Canon Susanne House or the Very Rev. Logan McMenamie, both of the Christ Church Anglican Cathedral, at 250-383-2714.
