Thrifty Foods has donated $300,000 to the B.C. Cancer Foundation.
The donation goes toward the library at the Vancouver Island Cancer Centre, which will be named the Thrifty Foods Patient Information Library.
The cancer centre is being expanded by 10,000 square feet.
A cancer survivor and store manager of Thrifty Foods’ Cloverdale location Dean Clarke says information was key in getting through his battle with the disease.
“I know first-hand how important it is to have access to the most current information.”
“I believe it’s crucial that patients can learn about the current research, cancer treatments, ways to cope and complementary and alternative cancer therapies.”
Alex Campbell, founder of Thrifty Foods, announced in September his personal donation of $1 million.
The B.C. Cancer Foundation is currently raising funds with its Inspire the World campaign to renovate and expand the Vancouver Island Cancer Centre.
