Chargers' earn academic awards

Nine Camosun Chargers student-athletes were recognized as 2008-2009 National Scholar Award recipients by the Canadian Colleges’ Athletics Association last week.

The list includes volleyball players Martin Adey, Stephanie Fulcher, Brent Hall, Derek Twomey and Adrianna Waller, as well as basketball players Kendall Allen, Basketball Lauryn Kerr, Jillian Proudfoot and Kate Carlson.

The award recognizes the outstanding academic accomplishments of CCAA student-athletes who've achieved a GPA standing of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Familiar name to head Jr. 'Rocks

He's been a junior and a senior Victoria Shamrock, so there's no question Jordan Sundher has the experience to lead the Jr. Rock's as the team's new coach.

The timing was right for the recently retired Sundher. The 31 year old was the Jr. Shamrock's Sportsman of the Year in 1997 and 1998, and won two Mann Cups with the senior side in 2003 and 2005.

Jr. Renegades clip Spartans

The Victoria Renegades moved to six wins and zero losses with a 45 to 6 win over the Victoria Spartans on the weekend.

Led by Marcus Davis and Jesse Woollard, who scored two touchdowns each, the Renegades continued their dominating junior bantam football season.

Kieran Davenport had a rushing major and Braddock Hunter caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Ashton McKinnon. Alex Brennan and Isaiah Pheiffer each converted two touchdowns.

Both teams are in action on Sunday with the Renegades' heading to Nanaimo and the Spartans heading to Cowichan.
