Some good news landed in the lap of four Greater Victoria social housing projects Wednesday.
Provincial and federal governments jointly contributed $7.3 million to renovate buildings in need of the greatest repair.
Evergreen Terrace won the majority of the funding.
The 183-unit development houses between 600 and 650 people, most of which are families.
The building is 38 years old, said Sam Rainboth, manager of public affairs for B.C. Housing, the agency that operates the affordable housing.
More than $5 million will repair parts of the roof, provide mechanical upgrades to the boilers, ventilators and heat pumps, and fund new low-flow fixtures and energy-efficient lighting. It will also fund upgrades to the building envelope's windows, walls, balconies and stairwells.
Other social housing to receive the money is Battin Fielding and Hampton House in Saanich (both operated by B.C. Housing) as well as Sitkum Lodge, one of 12 buildings operated by the Greater Victoria Housing Society.
