Fernwood Coffee barista Rob Kettner competes in the 2009 Western Regional Barista Championships Sunday at the Da Vinci Centre in Victoria. Competitors prepared 12 separate expresso drinks in 15 minutes, four straight-up expressos, four cappuccinos, and four signature drinks of their own creation. Judging is based on taste, presentation, station cleanliness and overall impression. The winner of the competition earns a spot in the national championship to be held October in Vancouver. The event was a fundraiser for Coffee Kids charity, helping families build better lives in coffee growing countries.
