Hundreds of friends and family met HMCS Winnipeg when it arrived home in Esquimalt Friday after a six-month deployment.
Crew lined the ship as wives, children and fathers searched for loved ones from the dock.
HMCS Winnipeg carried out Operation Allied Protector in April and May this year, earning international recognition. The warship assisted in the NATO-led counter piracy mission and disarmed five pirate ships in three separate incidents off the Horn of Africa.
Crew also escorted a number of merchant ships, ensuring 5,000 tons of humanitarian aid made it to Somalia in support of the World Food Program.
