Canadian Forces, RCMP combine to open legislature
A ceremonial guard of honour, comprised of members of the Canadian Forces, is at the centre of the ceremony to open the First Session of the 39th British Columbia Parliament on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
The guard is supported by an artillery saluting battery from 5th (B.C.) Field Regiment Royal Canadian Artillery and the Naden Band of Maritime Forces Pacific.
The ceremony begins with the arrival of Lt.-Gov. Steven Point. He will be greeted with a 15-gun Vice Regal Salute.
After inspecting the artillery detachment, guard and band, he will enter the legislature building to read the speech from the throne.
The traditional pomp and ceremony is symbolic of the nation’s will to protect its values and democratic institutions.
The Naden Band of Maritime Forces Pacific will lead the Royal Guard of Honour and the RCMP troop to the legislature.
The saluting guns will be located on Belleville Street above the causeway at noon. Traffic will be restricted during the short ceremony.
