Man threatens public with fake handgun
As the lunchtime crowds filled the streets of downtown Victoria Tuesday, a man wandered along store street, brandishing a handgun and threatening to kill Canadians and Americans.
Frightened people called police, who turned up with guns of their own and ordered the man to the ground. After threatening police with the gun as well, he threw it to the ground and was arrested. Officers discovered the handgun was a "realistic" imitation weapon.
The 41-year-old man appeared in court yesterday (Wednesday) to face charges of carrying a concealed weapon, among other charges.
