Boulevard camping questioned
Cemeteries and ecologically sensitive areas are Victoria's only green space off limits to camping.
But Victoria Coun. Charlayne Thornton-Joe would like to consider expanding the ban to include boulevards.
The issue arose after homeless people began erecting tents along the boulevard outside Our Place, 919 Pandora St.
The community raised concerns about safety, as the campers may wander into traffic, said Thornton-Joe.
In October, homeless advocates won the right to erect shelter in Victoria's parks. Since the B.C. Supreme Court ruling, councillors have passed bylaws to restrict camping to certain hours and locations.
