There could soon be 46 new affordable housing units in the Dockside Green development on Wharf Street.

The Capital Regional District approved a $460,000 grant from the Regional Housing Trust to help fund the project led by the Capital Regional Housing Corporation.

The rental units are geared toward families who need accommodation below market rent values. The two and three bedroom units will cost about $950 per month.

The project has also received a $460,000 contribution from the City of Victoria and $1, 802,000 from the Dockside Green Affordable Housing Fund.

The project needs municipal approval before it can go forward, but construction could start as early as this fall.
