Dockside Green plant reduces C02 emissions
Updated: July 09, 2009 4:45 PM
The Dockside Green development on Wharf Street will save about 5,000 tons of CO2 emissions every year with its new biomass heat generation plant. That's like driving 2,800 cars for a year an average of 120 kilometres every week.
The Harbour Road plant caught the attention of the William J. Clinton Foundation and was one of 16 climate positive developments selected worldwide.
The climate positive certification means Dockside Green will strive to keep its carbon emissions below zero.
"They looked at projects that set an example in major urban centres around the world about what is possible and how we should develop our communities differently," said Joe Van Belleghem from Dockside Green.
The project is the first greenhouse gas positive community from a building energy perspective in North America.
