Lawn bowling club cuts deal with city
The Canadian Pacific Lawn Bowling Club is here to stay, at least another three years.
Last year, Victoria city council considered redeveloping the space, including the bowling lawn and Cridge Park, into a cultural hub including a gallery and museum.
After the November election, however, a new council brought a new point of view. A motion by Coun. Pam Madoff to save the green space won majority support at council.
The city has offered the lawn bowling club a new lease for up to 15 years, to be renewed every three years.
The club will continue to pay $1 per year to lease the space, the rate introduced in 1931. The new lease comes into effect Sept. 21.
