U.S. couple arrested with handgun
Published: November 27, 2008 7:00 PMCanadian border services agents seized a 9-milimetre handgun from passengers arriving in Victoria on the Coho ferry Tuesday morning.
The Ruger pistol, with an illegal high-capacity magazine, was found after agents searched a U.S. couple’s vehicle. The gun was found broken into three pieces hidden in different parts of the car.
The pair were arrested and turned over to Victoria police.
Rudolph Valentino Martinez, 38, and Anna Margarita Martinez, 35, are charged with smuggling goods into Canada, possessing a prohibited weapon without a licence, occupying a vehicle in which there is a firearm, making a false customs statement and possessing a prohibited weapon with ammuniton.
They were being held in custody and scheduled to appear in provincial court Friday.
