Victim’s daughter makes public appeal to hit-and-run driver

The daughter of a Victoria man injured in a hit-and-run accident has come forward to ask the driver to surrender.

Tara Jackson’s father, Terry, has been in hospital since he was struck Oct. 23, crossing the street at the corner of Douglas and Fisgard streets around 11:30 p.m.

“I just hope (the driver) will come forward and do the right thing,” said Jackson, 19.

Her father, 56, suffered a broken leg, broken ribs and internal injuries, but no brain damage in the accident. Doctors haven’t indicated when the elder Jackson will be released from hospital, but Tara said he is recovering.

“He’s doing better and he’ll be himself once again in the future,” she said.

Victoria police Const. Luc Beauvais said if the driver doesn’t come forward, it will only be a matter of time before police track the car down.

Based on witness descriptions, security camera video and evidence recovered at the scene, police believe the vehicle is a grey, two-door Honda Civic coupe, model year between 1996 and 2000.

The driver’s side rear-view mirror was smashed when it struck Jackson, but the housing remained on the vehicle.

The Honda could also have damage to the windshield, hood and drivers’ side headlight.

“The vehicle we’re looking for, we have a lot of detail on (it), so in the investigation we will be getting closer and closer to the vehicle,” said Beauvais, asking the driver to come forward.

“It’s important for the police, it’s important for the family and we’d like to hear the story of the driver.”

Anyone with information can call Beauvais at 250-995-7227 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
