Man dies after suffering head injury

Victoria police are working with the coroner to establish how a man died after being found unconscious with a head injury on Blanshard Street Monday.

Victoria police were called to an apartment building at 2503 Blanshard St. after a neighbour walking his dog found the man lying on a patio just after 2 p.m.

He was rushed to hospital in critical condition, but he died of his injuries later that afternoon.

An autopsy was to be conducted Thursday to determine a cause of death.

Victoria police Sgt. Grant Hamilton said police know who the 53-year-old man is and that he didn't live at the apartment. They're talking to people who knew him to try and track his movements the day he died. His name is being withheld.

Anyone with information is requested to contact Det. Sgt. Rhys Wickes at 250-995-7244 or Det. Larry Hemstad at 250-995-7321.

Police dealt with a similar case Saturday night when a 52-year-old man was found unconscious with a head injury downtown. He remains in critical condition in hospital.

Police believe that man was assaulted around 10 p.m. in the 400 block of Swift Street. They're still looking for witnesses to come forward in the Saturday case as well.

Anyone with information can call Det. Len Hollingsworth at 250-995-7281, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
