Snuggle up and enjoy the big screen under the stars

If the recession's cut your entertainment budget, there's plenty of freebies on offer as the big screen moves outdoors.
The ninth annual Free-B Film Festival runs six flicks over four weekends in Beacon Hill Park. The event kicks off Aug. 7 with a 3-D flick called Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Viewing glasses are provided and shows start at 9 p.m. at the Cameron bandshell. It's all part of the Victoria Film Festival, whose main 10-day event runs in February.
If viewing from a sleeping bag on the ground is a little too close to nature, a drive-in may be more your style.
Mayfair Shopping Centre is holding its summer movie series in the mall's eastern parking lot, starting Aug. 6 with the movie ET. The Thursday-night series runs over three weeks. The movies are free, but anyone interested must stop by the mall for a pass the weekend previous.
