Self-proclaimed Luddite, Sherri Robinson prefers paper to computers. But thanks to a recent Victoria News article and the Internet, she's found a cousin she never knew she had.
The Esquimalt archivist and bibliophile, enjoys piecing together generations of her family history. She researches her blood line, which includes a relative who was the Duke of Clarence's mistress. Duke of Clarence later became William the Fourth of England.
Now, Shirley La Framboise, 75 of Cornwall, Ont., can help her uncover more family mysteries. The two share a great uncle and a passion for family history.
La Framboise came across Robinson's name online several years ago while researching their common uncle. She finally got around to Googling Robinson just days after the News published a feature on her.
"It's really neat," Robinson said. The call "just bowled me over."
They're now exchanging e-mails and information, working together to piece together more of their shared history.
"It just goes to show you how much you might not like the computer, but every once in a while something wonderful happens, and you say, 'well, thank you very much.'"
