Ping pong unites seniors
Updated: October 27, 2009 1:45 PM
Senior ping pong enthusiasts from across the city are coming together for a tournament.
It all began as a pilot project run by the Victoria Chinese Senior's Association to encourage ping pong at the Silver Threads Senior Centre on Douglas Street.
Three times a week, dozens of seniors take lessons and practise the sport. The goal is to increase fitness and social activity and everyone is welcome regardless of skill level.
The tournament will bring together senior ping pong groups from Victoria and Saanich Silver Threads, as well as the Monterey Seniors' Centre. The tournament takes place Nov. 16 and already has 100 individuals or teams signed up. Anyone interested in participating can contact their local senior's centre.
