The Winter Olympics may still be five months away, but they're coming early to CFB Esquimalt.

The local Defence Team of Maritime Forces Pacific and Joint Task Force Pacific will kick off their United Way/ Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign on Thursday.

The dockyard parking lot will be transformed into an arena for Olympic-themed events including dry land hockey, curling, snowshoeing and a traditional navy rope toss.

Last year, the local defence team raised $690,000 for the United Way of Greater Victoria.

The event will kick off the three-month fundraising campaign including concerts and events around the city.
