Lawyers offer free advice
Updated: September 01, 2009 3:34 PM
A group of pro-bono lawyers will be in Victoria Sept. 18 to offer free legal advice to people who stop by.
The four-person team from Pro-Bono Law B.C. visit the city as a final stop on a tour that includes Vancouver and Kelowna.
The law group's intent is to make it easier for low- and modest-income people to have access to legal advice.
Police Victim Services for Greater Victoria refer their clients to a free legal advice hotline, but, acting executive director Mary-Anne Tinney said, "it's more difficult for people who have not been victims of crime that are needing legal advice. They don't have council as readily available."
The free "advice-a-thon" is Sept. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Centennial Square. Advice-seekers can pre-book an appointment for that day by calling 1-877-762-6664 or stop by the event. Visit www.advice-a-thon.ca for more information.
