Youth leader wins scholarship
With the increasing cost of post-secondary education in Canada, Future Shop has made education a little more accessible for one Victoria student.
Jonathan Russell was one of 56 young people presented with a $4,000 Future Leaders Scholarship last weekend.
The award is part of a national partnership between Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada and Future Shop.
Russell has been a member, volunteer and staff member at the Victoria Boys and Girls Club for nine years.
"This partnership has allowed us to guide tomorrow's leaders down the right path," Pam Jolliffe, president and CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of Canada said in a press release.
Russell will study engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland in the fall.
In nine years, almost 500 students have received the award across the country, totaling more than $1.5 million.
