Government Street appears eerily empty in advance of this Saturday's (Nov. 22) annual Island Farms Santa Claus Parade.
Holiday season officially kicks off this weekend
Published: November 20, 2008 10:00 AMSanta Claus will be back in Victoria this Saturday (Nov. 22) as the Island Farms Santa’s Light Parade takes to the street.
“Oh, Victoria’s one of my favourite cities,” the jolly old elf said, reached by phone at his home at the North Pole.
He said the Capital Region’s children have been “excellent” in 2008.
“We’ve had no complaints on them at all this year. (They’ll) be pretty well getting all they want.”
“Ho, ho, ho, ho, ho,” said Claus.
The parade starts at 5:45 Saturday evening, heading out from the Legislative Buildings on Belleville Street, then following up Government Street and ending at Capital Iron on Store Street, where Santa will be on hand to meet his biggest - and littlest - fans.
Donations to the Mustard Seed Food Bank will be accepted along the parade route, as well as at the Mustard Seed’s headquarters at 625 Queens Avenue, or any branch of Coast Capital Savings.
The parade is just the start of Christmas events downtown.
In two weeks, another parade will take place, this time on the water. The 19th annual lighted ship parade will sail on the Inner Harbour Dec. 6.
