A shelter that was struggling to find funding to stay afloat two years ago has found its lifebelt.
Thanks to the Beacon Community Services, Out of the Rain Youth Shelter received $13,000 through the third annual Art on the Vine fundraiser at the Belfry Theater.
More than 50 pieces of art were donated from professional artists for the June 24 silent auction, and brought in a surprising amount of support from the community.
Out of the Rain Youth Shelter operates seven days a week from November to April. It provides 30 emergency beds for youth aged 15-25, with trained counsellors and street nurses to help youth find help for a range of issues.
