More than 400 Vancity Credit Union employees ratified a new contract that gives them increased wages, medical premiums and overtime pay.

Vancity staff will receive pay increases totaling five per cent in three steps with a final bump on Jan, 1, 2011. Workers also get an additional lump sum payment in 2009 and will receive expanded compassionate leave.

About 90 percent of employees, represented by the B.C. Government and Services Employees' Union, approved the settlement.

Vancity and the BCGEU also pledged to partner on community projects in the new contract, which expires Dec. 31, 2011.
