Hooking Generation Y

Employers scratching their heads over how to attract and retain younger talent are invited to attend a workshop offered by the Women's Entreprise Centre.
Understanding the difference in values between generations is important to businesses, said Dawn McCooey, business advisor for the non-profit centre.
Generation Y, referring to people born between 1978 and 1998, are more transient, she said.
Their talents include being exceptional multi-taskers and technologically adept, and while they might have the best ideas, they want challenge and flexibility, she added.
"Work is not necessarily their number one priority ... and it causes employers (to pull) out their hair," McCooey said.
The workshop runs over two mornings on Sept. 28 and 30 at 990 Fort St. It costs $59 and includes many resources to take back to the office to train others.
