Published: November 18, 2008 5:00 PMThe Sooke Bantam C girls played two strong games over the weekend. Jessica Audette turned a Texas hat trick with four goals against Cowichan Valley. Kelsey Slaney and Cassidy Smith turned in assists on the scores. The girls travelled Sunday to Port Alberni on a mission and came out ahead with a score of 5-2. Jessica and Cassidy again were strong on goal. It was a great overall effort in the win with Tory, Shawnee, and Casey rounding out the offense.
Sooke Midget A Dumont Tire traveled north again this past weekend to take on the Campbell River Tyees. It was a physical game with no puck luck for Sooke. CR was able to slide five past Sooke’s hard working Brandon Gibb. On Sunday it was a stop in Parksville to take on the Oceanside Generals. Aaron Kasper came to help out as the injury list had grown. Oceanside opened the scoring. Tyler McNeil followed up with nice passing from Kurtis Lambert and Jordan Wilson. The second period was 2-1 for Oceanside with Isaac Willard plunking it from Chris McDonald. The third period was three for them and none for us. The team’s next home game is Saturday November 22 at 6:30 p.m. vs Cowichan.
4M Bobcat & Trucking Midget A Girls played a great Remembrance Day Female Hockey Tournament in Burnaby. In five games the team allowed only seven goals (one in an empty net). Avoiding any breakout passes by the other teams, they were way more aggressive in battles for the pucks. Missing two players then losing another to injury, the girls did not give up and showed great energy in their last playoff game.
On Saturday, Sooke’s Peewee “A” played Juan de Fuca at SEAPARC arena. Sooke battled back and forth with JDF in the first period with goals by Abe Lamontagne (Brooklyn Navarrete) and Quinton MacDonnell unassisted. Sooke took the lead in the second with a solid goal by Alf Nelson (Brayden Bangert). Quinton MacDonnell scored in the third (Ben Sleivert) which motivated JDF to score two on Sooke tying the score at 4. Quinton Macdonell scored Sooke’s tie breaking goal with assistance from Brooklynn Navarrete. Lucas Blatchford’s goaltending held off JDF for the rest of the third period for a 5-4 win.
Sooke’s Peewee “A” next home league game is Sat Nov 22 at 2 p.m. against Nanaimo.
The HHS Drilling and Blasting novice C Boys fought two tough battles this past weekend against Juan de Fuca. Sooke’s fantastic goaltending by Brady Thompson and Steven Piatkowski kept the games close but Sooke couldn’t rally back in time to pick up a win.
Tremendous efforts were turned in from Garrett Gilbertson, Kaleb McHugh, James Vince, Matthew Clarke and Lachlan Sleivert. Boston Greenhough took home the digger award.
