Two rival home Midget boys teams duked it out at SEAPARC Leisure Centre Thursday, November 7.
With lots of shots being fired at both ends, strong goaltending from Mom’s Cafe’s (Midget Blue) Kody McGuinness and Sooke 2 for 1 Pizza’s Nick Dueck (Midget White) held the numbers down and kept the excitement level high.
Mom’s Cafe’s Kyle Lajeunesse grabbed a pass from Luke Lajeunesse to score early in the first. Then 2 for 1’s Brody Vandekerkhove scored on a slap shot from the blue line, assisted by Sean Hansen.
In the second period 2 for 1 edged ahead by two goals from Keltan Chandler (unassisted) and Marc Perron, helped by Hansen.
In the third Mom’s Luke Lajeunesse narrowed the gap, scoring off a pass from Kyle. That had the offence on both teams picking up the pace for the rest of game, but no one else was able to penetrate the solid goaltending of either Dueck or McGuinness, ending in a 3-2 win for the 2 for 1 boys.
Sooke Midget A Dumont Tire played in the Port Alberni tournament this past weekend. The first game was against the host team which did not allow a single Sooke goal. Not as many penalties and injuries resulted in a 7-4 loss for Sooke.
