Lots of good going on
This past Friday, the Sooke Harbour Chamber of Commerce put on quite a show. The Sooke Community Hall was bright and alive with amazing decor, designed by Frederique Philip and her crew. The place was transformed from its humbleness to anything but humble. Making do with what we have proved to be spectacular. It was the annual awards night for local businesses and it was a smash hit. It was nice to be able to socialize and dance in an attractive venue, it made the whole event extra special.
Congratulations to all of the winners and the nominees. (photos and winners in next week’s edition).
The chamber has other events in the works, including Spirit Day, a combination of the past and the new. The Santa Parade takes place on Saturday, December 5. It is hoped all local businesses will take part with booths, refreshments, decorating their premises, what have you. It is also the day of the Sail Past.
We all exalt the efforts made in other communities, like Ladysmith, during the Christmas season, let’s see if we can start the same sort of tradition here. It has to start somewhere, sometime. How about now?
With a little effort and will we can transform our town at night into something to be proud of. It’s time to stop complaining and get involved in positive change.
Remember why
Today is Remembrance Day and we at the Sooke News Mirror honour those who fought and those who fell in battle.
The ceremonies begin at 10:30 a.m. with a parade from Evergreen Mall to the cenotaph at the Royal Canadian Legion on Eustace Road. The laying of wreaths will take place after the minute of silence at 11 a.m.
