Juan de Fuca voters have their say

More elections went on than just the District of Sooke council and the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area regional director.
Six positions were filled on the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area Land Use Committee and the Advisory Planning Commision. The Land Use Committee makes recomendations on land use issues such as development permits, zoning, setbacks and subdivision applications. The Planning Advisory Commission makes recommendations to the Capital Regional District on community and neighbourhood development plans, zoning applications and development permits.
The unofficial results show East Sooke Sub-Region elected Steve Grundy for the Land Use Commitee with 237 votes, beating out Pan Engwer with 216 votes.
Otter Point voters elected Heather Phillips to the LUC who garnered 245 votes to Gerry Niedermeiser’s 183.
In Shirley/Jordan River voters gave the nod to George Miller for the LUC with 79 votes beating out Terri Alcock ‘s 56.
In Port Renfrew Ted Mehler was chosen by acclamation. Two other positions on the LUC went to the Malahat and Willis Point Sub-Regions.
In the run for a seat on the Advisory Planning Commission, the votes went to; East Sooke Sub-Region: Layton Thomas Engwer (234), Jeri Grant (242), Kay Lovett (229), George May (201), Rhonda Underwood.
In Shirley/Jordan River, sitting on the APC will be Dominique Bernardet (78), Sonja Dewit (84), Barbara Anne Ferrett (77), and Fiona Padbury McDannold (73).
Nominees in Otter Point APC were in by acclamation.
The referendum to support the Sooke Region Museum was passed with 3,845 voters saying “yes” and 726 saying “no.”
