A reverence for wood

Finding the spirit in the wood

Phoebe Dunbar is evolving. From her most humble beginnings as a woodcarver, Dunbar is finding carving taking up more and more of her creative energy.

Just recently she had a new carving shed built which now holds her supply of burls, tree roots, gnarled pieces of timber and, of course, her tools.

“I’m so fortunate to have a space to go to,” said Dunbar of her new Zen-like carving shed. Shed or no shed, her home is still full of wonderfully contorted wood waiting some oil or a final buff. The odd shaped bowls, vessels and cutting boards are in profusion everywhere.

“I’m seeing more whimsy,” said Dunbar of her work. “I’m loving the flaws and I’m finding the rhythm.”

Dunbar will be having a festive art show and exhibition of her newest works at the Little Vienna Bakery until November 21, during regular store hours. For more info go to: www.phoebewood.com
