Joel Dorval is an ordinary 7 year old boy who has faced some extraordinary challenges in his young life. In October of 2007 Joel was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. As Joel and his family coped with the many rounds of treatment at BC Children’s Hospital and Victoria General Hospital, one of the positive things they had to focus on was the fulfilment of a dream. As soon as he was considered to be medically stable, Joel’s hope was to travel on a camping trip with his family, his Mom, Dad and four sisters. A journey in an RV to West Edmonton mall and the Calgary Zoo was a road trip the whole family could look forward to!
With the assistance of Help Fill A Dream, Joel’s family camping trip will be a reality this August. Although Joel and his family knew the trip will be happening, the TELUS Community Ambassadors – a volunteer group associated with the company planned a memorable surprise – for an LA Limousine to pick the family up at their home in Sooke, at 4:30 Wednesday afternoon, June 24. From there they were whisked to a park in North Saanich where a 29’ motor home from Triangle RV was set up for the family to familiarize themselves with.
Volunteers were there to barbecue hotdogs and hamburgers for the Dorval family.
Joel's mom Michelle said the family thoroughly enjoyed the ride to and from North Saanich, toasting the occasion with sparkling apple juice.
Another surprise adding to the thrill were all of the cool toys that packed the motorhome.
