Senior’s bus is always on the move

The new bus us running great. We certainly thank everyone that made the purchase of it possible.

We are still relying on the community to help us keep it running as we no longer receive gaming funds.

After approximately 25 years the rules have been changed and we do not fit their criteria. No matter how hard we tried to get the rules changed, they wouldn’t budge. We feel the bus is necessary for all Sooke citizens that are unable to drive, and it is an opportunity to get out and socialize with others.

This last year we have had problems with drivers and getting board members. We now have a reliable driver and hope to keep the bus on the road. We desperately need new younger board members to plan trips, etc.

The bus operates around Sooke Tuesdays and Thursdays, picking up passengers and bringing them to the senior centre for bingo and to the malls for shopping. We would like to take them to the swimming pool for aqua-fit sessions but are unable to get enough members wanting to go swimming to make it feasible.

Two Wednesdays a month a hot lunch is offered at the drop-in centre and we pick up members at their home and at Ayre Manor Lodge. If you are interested in the Tuesday or Thursday trips please call Gwen at 250-642-7749. The dinner rides are booked when members of the drop-in centre are phoned to see if they will be attending.

Friday the bus goes in to Victoria to different locations and on Sundays, once a month, for dinner at different restaurants. Please contact Celia at 250-642-5828 if you are interested in these outings.

Trips out of town and to special events on Wednesdays are advertising in the coming events column of the Sooke News Mirror. Call Phyllis at 250-642-2006.

For further information or if you can help, please call Kay at 250-642-4662 or Don at 250-642-2006.
