The Sooke News Mirror is the newspaper of record for the District of Sooke and the surrounding communities of East Sooke, Otter Point, Shirley, and Port Renfrew. We publish every Wednesday morning during the year. We can be reached by telephone weekdays, excluding holidays, from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Submissions for news, sports, arts, business and community items need to be turned in by 5 p.m. the Friday before publication, and all items run on a space-available basis.
Use the forms available on our home page for letters to the editor, submitting sports results and for event listings.
E-mail or call one of the people listed on the right for additional editorial or advertising help.

Rod Sluggett has been the publisher of the Sooke News Mirror for the past 12 years. In his 34 years in the newspaper business he has worked in Courtney, Parksville, Powell River and Surrey. He is a sports enthusiast and a major man of the Vancouver Canucks.

Former Winnipeger, New Yorker and Pennsylvania Stater, Frank Kaufman has been building ads for the Mirror, Lions Club Directory, Sooke To Port Renfrew Tourist Guide and other publications since May 2006. He completed Penn State BA in English and Speech Communication in 1995. Frank likes films, old sci-fi tv shows, is still a metal head, and enjoys hanging out at the beach with his son.

Jim Sinclair came to the Sooke News MIrror in 2006 via the Grand Forks Gazette after stints in other community newspapers and radio. His beats include sports and general community reporting. In his off time he is a musician.

Harla Eve is an original Sookite and has been with the Sooke News Mirror since 1975. She started in the mailroom and is now our friendly, efficient office manager. The Sooke News Mirror relies on her knowledge of past and present community members.

Joan Gamache moved to Sooke 8 years ago after leaving a long career on the Lower Mainland. She has been with the Sooke News Mirror since 2005 working part time in advertising sales.

Pirjo Raits has been the editor of the Sooke News Mirror since 2006. Previously she held editor and reporter positions for community newspapers on Salt Spring Island, Williams Lake and Prince George. She has won regional, provincial and national awards during her years as a reporter and editor.

Steve Arnett has been with the Sooke Mirror since 1983. Originally, his father John Arnett bought the paper in 1983 and sold it to Black Press in 1992. Steve is the production manager who enjoys outdoor activities such as salmon fishing and skiing, often with a cold one in his hand.
