Salt Spring Island Golf and Country Club men have won back the highly coveted Ryder Cup Trophy.

Each year 24 golfers from Salt Spring and 24 from Mount Brenton in Chemainus square off in a two-day competition following the format performed on the big stage between U.S. and Europe.

Under a drenching rain on day one, Saturday, Oct. 17, Salt Spring men were able to take advantage of playing at home and finished the day with a 15 - 9 advantage.

On Sunday, faced with playing away and with 36 points still available, Salt Spring stood up to the challenge and behind strong three-point performances by Bill Elford and Doug Wellington won enough points to return the trophy to Salt Spring. Final tally 31-29 for Salt Spring.

Ryder Cup captain Glenn Woodley, who selected and chose the pairings, said he was proud of his team and is already thinking about next year.
