Letter - Too much traffic in Ganges

I visit Salt Spring fairly regularly as my family and I always enjoy our time there — visiting friends and appreciating all that Salt Spring has to offer.

However, our time in Ganges in August was spoiled by horrendous traffic gridlock. It was so bad that I cancelled a coffee and shopping visit with a friend, preferring to ride my bike in the Fulford area. I’m sure a lot of potential business is lost because of people like me who do not want to spend their vacations battling traffic.

Have you considered not allowing traffic into the downtown core (or at least imposing a stiff congestion charge) and as an alternative, providing a shuttle bus service? I would also like to suggest that the anti-idling bylaw be enforced. The number of idling vehicles I saw on Salt Spring was very disturbing.

On a positive note, I was glad to see the new community bus on the island. Congratulations!

I look forward to hearing of some changes in Ganges next summer. I’ll keep tuned.
