Late passengers the cause

The entire “ferry ordeal” incident could have been avoided if Ms. Beatty had simply shown up on time for the ferry.

Unfortunately it seems many Gulf Islanders seem to feel they are entitled to have their cake and eat it too. People complain vociferously if the ferry is late, then they complain bitterly if they show up late and the ferry does not wait for them. Make up your minds!

I am sure Ms. Beatty, had she arrived on time and boarded the ferry, would have been among those complaining to the crew if they had waited for the next car, and the next, and the next, and the next — when do you cut it off?

After years of employees being harassed and abused by the public, the company is finally being forced to take action. Under law, the employer must now provide an environment which is harassment and abuse free. That includes physical and verbal assault by passengers. That “direct action so many have contemplated” can result in criminal charges.

The main cause of the ferries being late is late-arriving passengers. If you want the ferries to sail on time, be there on time, or realize you may not get on and be prepared to wave “bye bye” from the dock.
