‘Rogues’ Kahn and Norget team up for hefty bridge score

Time again to “hear poor rogues talk of [bridge] news; . . . who loses and who wins; who’s in and who’s out — and take upon us the mystery of things . . . “ as Lear didn’t say to Cordelia so long ago.

The Nov. 3 winners among six full tables were Charles Kahn and Judy Norget, in first place with a hefty score. Second were Jeff Bell and Prem Margolese, third were Lynn Thorburn and Tilly Crawley, while Gillian Mouat and Jennifer Quick were in the fourth spot.

The losers were left to contemplate another line from Lear: “The gods are just, and of our pleasant vices make instruments to plague us.”

Undaunted, the usual suspects turned up on Nov. 10 and this time the list of winners was different.

Those who were “in” the most were Isabelle Richardson and Jean Elder, followed by George and Flo Laundry, then Lynn Thorburn and Tilly Crawley repeating their third place.  Fourth place welcomed Patricia MacFarlane back to the fold after a long absence, partnered happily by Jacquie Stevulak and avoiding even one bottom board.

Out in the cold this time, the rest could only plead “Fortune, good night, smile once more; turn thy wheel!” and they’ll be back to try again.

Unless you feel “O! that way madness lies; let me shun that” and would like to have a go at duplicate bridge, please call George Laundry at 250-653-9095 or e-mail pastorale@shaw.ca.
