Lacrosse: Baby 'Rocks earn spotlight, trio of Vic pro-LAX players move teams
Victoria isn't a lacrosse factory by chance.
With the WLA's first place overall Sr. Victoria Shamrocks out of town and the Jr. A Shamrocks enjoying a well deserved first-round playoff bye, the spotlight turns to the Int. A Shamrocks.
Aged 16-17, the Baby 'Rocks are holding fort at Bear Mountain against the Port Coquitlam Saints, 1:30 p.m. Saturday and the South Fraser Stickmen, 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
It's the last two games of the season for the 13-6 Baby 'Rocks, who're tied for second place.
Trio of Vic lacrosse players moved in NLL dispersal draft
Three of Victoria's most up-and-coming pro lacrosse players were snapped up in the National Lacrosse League dispersal draft for the now-folded Portland Lumberjax.
Unable to make a go of it since entering the league in 2006, the Lumberjax's player assets were made available by draft to the existing 11 teams.
Three junior A Shamrocks graduates were drafted, all produced in the local region.
Current senior A Coquitlam Adanac forward Cory Conway went fifth overall to one of the most successful pro lacrosse franchises, the Colorado Mammoth.
The Philadelphia Wings took goalie Matt Flindell 15th and the Boston Blazers took current Jr. A 'Rocks captain Matt Yager 19th.
