Vikes striker invited to Team Canada national camp

The UBC Thunderbirds just got a lucky break.

When the Thunderbirds take on the UVic Vikes at the CIS women's soccer Canada West playoffs in Langley on Saturday, Vikes super striker Kendra Flock won't be there.

The fifth-year star of the Vikes women’s soccer team has been invited to the Canadian Senior National team’s training camp in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Nov. 3-11.

Consequently, the Vikes will be without her for this weekend's Canada West playoffs.

“It was such a hard decision because I’ve spent four years with the Vikes, but it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and I have to take it,” Flock said.

“It was tough because you kind of feel like you’re letting your team down but they’ve been very supportive and they’re very proud of me.”

Flock led the Canada West in scoring this season, tallying 14 goals in 14 games to lead the Vikes to a second place finish with a 9-2-3 record. It's a single-season record for the Vikes.

The Canada West playoffs are hosted by the University of the Fraser Valley. The Vikes play UBC at 3 p.m. on Saturday. A win puts them into the Canada West finals.
