With four elite, junior-aged Victoria box lacrosse teams deep in playoff action, only three are on steady ground going into the latter half of the week.
The Victoria junior A Shamrocks, heralded earlier in the season as Minto Cup, national championship contenders slipped in their second-round, B.C. Junior Lacrosse League playoff series. The Rocks' late-season offensive woes have haunted them as the surging New Westminster Salmonbellies took games one and two of the best-of-five series; 10-8 on Saturday and 8-4 on Sunday. The Jr. A Shamrocks host the Bellies in a must-win situation Saturday (July 25), 5 p.m. at Bear Mountain Arena.
In Pacific Northwest Jr. B Lacrosse League action the Vic.-Esquimalt Eagles and Westshore Bears split their opening two games on the weekend.
The Eagles won the opener on Saturday at Panorama but Westshore came back Sunday and stormed out to a 6-0 lead, barely hanging on for the 6-5 win.
On the Intermediate A level the Int. A Victoria Shamrocks, or Baby 'Rocks, aged 16-17, booked their ticket to the 2009 provincials.
The Baby 'Rocks dropped the Burnaby Lakers 8-3 and 7-6 and await the remainder of the Int. A playoff schedule to see who will join them in the finals.
