Eleven-year-old diver Aidan Faminoff was superb on Sunday as the Speedo Junior National diving championships concluded at Saanich Commonwealth Place.

Faminoff earned two gold medals, 10 metre platform and 3m springboard, as well as a silver in the 1m springboard.

It was all Boardworks Shane Miszkiel in the men's 16-18 category. Miszkiel won two gold medals, the men’s one-metre and three-meter springboards.

“The one-metre is not an event I practiced as much as three-metre," said Miszkiel. "But the biggest challenge for me today was Cody (Yano, Edmonton) and Samuel (Parent, Montreal). They dove really well and that made it very close.”

McCormick concludes junior career with victory

Riley McCormick ended his successful junior career with a victory on the men’s 10-metre tower.

McCormick, 18, totalled 581.95 points, breaking the previous Canadian record of 537.75 set by Bertrand Blier in 2006.

Miszkiel was second at 477.70 and Austin Mix of London, Ont., third at 448.85

"I couldn’t ask for a better finish to this chapter in my career," said McCormick, who is in Rome to compete for his third world aquatic championships. "The crowd was amazing. I don’t think I ever heard it as loud. It’s a great confidence builder for the worlds.”

Outstanding divers of the meet

Shane Miszkiel was named men's most outstanding diver in the 16-18 category, Carol-Ann Ware for the women; Aidan Faminoff and Dominique Cadieux were named most outstanding in the 11-and-under category.
