Road rage worriesome for Saanich police

Two incidents of aggressive driving ended in near misses Thursday night. Saanich police are worried both could've ended much worse, considering the wind and rain that made road conditions dangerous.
The first incident happened around 7:50 p.m. on the Pat Bay Highway when a car travelling in the fast lane was approached from behind by a yellow truck.
The driver of the truck came close to the car, then flashed its high beams, which prompted the driver of the car to enter the slow lane.
When the truck passed, the car returned to the fast lane and flashed its high beams at the truck.
The driver of the truck slammed on the brakes and came to a complete stop in the fast lane. The car swerved to avoid hitting the truck and ended up in the grassy median, sustaining damage to the undercarriage. The truck continued south along the Pat Bay.
The second incident, which was spotted by a traffic safety officer, occurred at 10:30 p.m. in the 3300 block of Douglas Street. The officer spotted a black Toyota riding the bumper of another car travelling northbound.
Police say the woman driving the Toyota had her hands in the air and appeared to be yelling.
The Toyota travelled too close to the other car as they passed through the intersection of Saanich Road and the Trans-Canada Highway.
The car pulled over to the slow lane and the Toyota accelerated past.
The officer followed the Toyota and attempted to pull the woman over at Tillicum Road, but the driver sped through the intersection as the light turned red.
The Toyota nearly struck another vehicle before pulling over for the officer just past Tillicum Road.
A 39-year-old driver was issued three tickets for Driving Without Consideration, Disobeying a Red Light and Failing to Stop for Police.
