Sailor seemed fine with overturned boat situation

A solo sailor got a dip in the waters off Willows Beach on Wednesday. Oak Bay Sea Rescue was called out just after 11 a.m. after a 7.5-metre Laser overturned. Passersby called in the incident and the Victoria-based joint rescue co-ordination centre dispatched the sea rescue crew, based at Oak Bay Marina.

Oak Bay police say Lasers tip over all the time and that officers who attended the scene said the sailor, an adult male, was actually waving away concerned individuals.

"But anyone who would go out in this weather without a wetsuit, well, I won't say anything more," said Const. Tim Henderson. He reminded anyone heading out to sail in inclement weather that wetsuits should be a given.
