Saanich police waded into a messy situation at a morning call to a liquor store Thursday.
The janitor at the Hillside Liquor Store at 3201 Shelbourne St. called 911 just before 8 a.m., telling operators a man had pushed his way into the store while he was on his way out.
By the time police arrived around 15 minutes later, the 27-year-old man had polished off several bottles of liquor.
In that short span of time, he went through a mickey of vodka, a mickey of scotch, two bottles of cider and a can of Colt .45 beer.
He then vomited on a display of potato chips.
Saanich police Const. Paul Lamoureux said the man was co-operative when police arrived, except for telling them his name was "Jack Ass" and "McLovin."
The liquor store pegged the value of the alcohol at $45, and the value of the chips rendered unsaleable at $131.
Christopher James Meneely, 27 and of no fixed address, pleaded guilty later that afternoon to a break and enter charge and will serve a 12-month suspended sentence.
He was ordered to attend counselling for alcohol abuse, seek employment, make a written apology to the janitor and pay the liquor store $175 in restitution.
