Cop tails alleged drunk driver leaving bar

An alleged drunk driver faces criminal charges after driving right past a marked police car this week.
At 1:20 a.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 22, an officer sat in his marked car next to the Red Lion Inn for two reasons, explained Saanich police spokesman Sgt. John Price. The officer was finishing some paperwork, and he was making sure no one drove away from the bar under the influence of alcohol.
Sure enough, two people left the bar and got into a car. The officer started his engine and followed the driver, with lights flashing. The driver carried on until finally stopping on Boleskine Road to pump gas before noticing the officer.
After a breathalyzer test, the driver was issued a 24-hour driving suspension, had his car impounded for a day and faces charges for driving under the influence.
Computer stolen from school
Saanich police responded to an alarm at St. Joseph’s elementary school on Burnside Road at 4 a.m., Sept. 19. When they arrived, officers discovered a broken window at the administration office, and a desktop computer missing.
Two items were left at the scene that might belong to the suspect, said Saanich police’s new public information officer Sgt. Julie Fast.
One is a torque wrench, the other a blue baseball cap with University Heights written on the front.
Police are asking anyone with information on this crime or on the owner of the items to call them at 250 475-4321 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
