Cop car involved in accident

Saanich Police are investigation a car crash Thursday night involving an on-duty police officer.

The collision occurred at 8:30 p.m. in the 4000 block of Shelbourne Street.

The police car was travelling southbound in the curb lane, and a Toyota Prius was next to it in the centre lane.

A second police car, travelling northbound, was in the process of pulling over an unrelated vehicle. The officer involved in the collision made a left turn into the northbound lanes to assist with the traffic stop, but collided with the Prius.

No injuries to the occupants in the police vehicle or other vehicle were reported.

About $1,500 worth of damage was caused to each vehicle. Both cars involved were towed for repairs.

A detailed investigation has been launched to identify the cause of the accident, but police are asking any witnesses who have not yet provided a statement to contact them.
