A Saanich pharmacist is due in court for a bail hearing Thursday (July 23) after Saanich police report that they found a loaded handgun during a search of a Quadra Street drugstore.

Ali Laal, 50, is charged with possession of a restricted firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and two counts of breaching court orders.

Laal was free on bail at the time of his arrest, facing assault charges laid earlier in July. Police originally obtained the search warrant for Laal's store, Pharmaesthetics at 3960 Quadra St., in an investigation dating back to 2008, but said no charges have been laid against Laal in relation to that file.
